How do you get a serial interface and line protocol to be up on a cisco router?

Posted under Uncategorized by mekichan on Monday 18 May 2009 at 1:45 pm

I have two cisco routers connected with serial cables and they are being configured with a console cable. I set the ip address of both routers 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.0 192.168.2.1 255.255.255.0 and then run a no shut. I exit to exec mode and run a show interface and all I get is Serial is up, line protocol is down. How do I get the line protocol to also be up?

Is there a chance Cisco network engineers will go out of demand?

Posted under Uncategorized by mekichan on Thursday 14 May 2009 at 6:39 am

After I complete my engineering degree in another 2 years time I’m planning to study CCNA, CCNP, etc etc… on the field of wireless networking.
But might it be a waste? Will Cisco devices be in market for a long time?

Or should I not do Cisco but stick to the traditional path of doing a MSc or PhD?

Do I need a crossover cable to configure a Cisco 1231 AP?

Posted under Uncategorized by mekichan on Thursday 14 May 2009 at 3:54 am

When connecting a PC to a Cisco 1231 access point Ethernet port, do I need a crossover cable? I don’t currently have flat or rolled cables to plug into the console port, but I do have straight-through and crossover cables. If I want to plug directly into the factory defaulted 1231, can I do it with a straight-through or do I have to have a crossover?

Thanks!
