What ip address do hackers use when you are using a router?
for example when using port scanners like angry ip scanner or advanced port scanner?

Is it the ip address that the router assigned to the computer or the ip address assigned by the ISP?

Does using a router makes me more safer?
I have a linksys if that helps.

It’s the public IP address the Hackers use. It’s the only one they can see when scanning. Your internal IP addresses (192, 172,etc) are non-routable on the internet. Your Publicly viewable IP address is assigned by the ISP. Yes using a router makes it a lot safer

Using a router can make you safer, yes, if you don’t have any open ports fowarded.
As it is, a hacker would use your ISP-designated IP address to access your network.

    My solution to hackers:
Grab two routers. Set a demilitarized zone up on the first one. This is the router that the internet will come into. Set up a pseudo-network on this demilitarized zone, (I have 12 nodes on mine), so at that point you can easily reclone the machine and fix any exploitable areas. You’ve got a firewall before all of this, obviously.
Next, connect the next router to that network through a firewall (yes another firewall), as a demilitarized zone, and then connect your real network to that. Hackers will never find you.

If you’re using wireless networking, use WPA. WEP is insecure.
Using 2 WNICs, a hacker could easily decrypt your WEP packets and obtain the security key.

Lets not forget about the OS you use. Windows is full of exploits, no matter how secure it says it is. Linux is beautiful.

I am going to try and answer your question(s) in the order that you asked:

    1. Hackers usually use someone else’s IP addresses, if they are going to try a hack. How do you use some one else’s IP? Well they usually use Proxy services, or hack into someone else’s machine first and use their IP to hack yours. This way’s if they use a port scanner, their real IP address is going to be hidden.

    2. The IP address that’s broadcast to the world, everytime you do something on the Internet is your Public IP or the address assigned by the ISP. Your router IP is called the LAN IP, which is usually only available to yourself, though there are sites like Machine IP (http://www.machineip.com) that can discover the LAN Ip over the Internet.

    3. Using the router doesn’t necessarily make you safer, it’s the firewall feature that does. If you are using a router, switch on your Firewall. Also, install an additional firewall like ZoneAlarm on your machine.
